Cognitive distortions are exactly what they sound like, distorted thoughts and beliefs in our mind. These distortions are misrepresented, irrational as they often do not represent reality. Though inaccurate, these thoughts and beliefs are powerful. Cognitive distortions seem like reality even though they are not. Cognitive distortions can be seeing yourself, someone else, or a situation through a negative lens and spark a feeling of anxiety or depressed mood.
